No more worries about charging and range for electric cars?

Electronic Roads: How a New Technology Could Change

 the Future of Transport

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, but one of the main problems remains the same - limited range and the need for regular recharging. The world is looking for a solution, and one of the most promising directions is electronic roads - sections of highways that charge the car directly while it is moving.

Such roads are already operating in large parts of Europe and China, and a similar experiment recently appeared in the USA for the first time.

What is an Electronic Road?

An electronic road is a section of a highway under which special copper coils are installed. These coils create a magnetic field and transmit energy to an electric vehicle, provided it has a corresponding receiver.

The principle is similar to a wireless phone charger, only on a massive scale.

Charging is possible in two modes:

  • Dynamic Charging - while the vehicle is in motion

  • Static Charging - when the vehicle is stopped or parked

This significantly simplifies the operation of electric vehicles and solves the problem of "range anxiety."

Electreon Company - The Leader in Electronic Roads

The developments are backed by the Israeli company Electreon, one of the world's pioneers in Wireless Electric Road Systems (WERS) technology.

How the Electreon system works:

  • Coils under the road transmit energy via a magnetic field.

  • A receiver on the vehicle picks up the charge.

  • A smart control system manages the process and ensures safety.

Electreon is implementing projects in:

  • USA (Michigan)

  • Germany

  • Netherlands

  • Italy, Sweden, France, China

The company cooperates with Ford, Toyota, and Stellantis and offers a convenient Charging as a Service (CaaS) model - an equivalent of a charging subscription.

The First Section of Electronic Road in the USA

While this is far from the first experiment in the world, it became historic for the United States.

In the state of Michigan, a 400-meter-long section of road was opened that can charge electric vehicles directly while they are moving.

For now, charging only works on cars with a special receiver, but this is a huge step for technological progress. Electreon plans to expand the network of test roads across the state.

Advantages of Electronic Roads

  1. Eliminate the problem of limited range The car charges while driving - long trips become easier.

  2. Reduce the cost of electric vehicles Huge batteries are not needed - meaning cars can become cheaper and lighter.

  3. Save the planet's resources Less mining of lithium and nickel - less environmental harm.

  4. Especially useful for commercial transport Trucks, buses, and taxis will be able to operate without long stops for charging.

  5. Complete safety Electreon states that the technology is not harmful to people, animals, or plants near the road.

Is such a road needed in Kyrgyzstan and CIS countries?

This is the main question that sparks lively discussion.

Imagine similar roads appearing in our country - in Bishkek, Osh, Naryn, or along the Bishkek - Cholpon - Ata highway. Electric vehicles charge themselves, there are no queues at charging stations, and carriers save millions on operations.

But are we ready for this?

Here are the questions worth discussing:

  • Would you like to see electronic roads on our streets?

  • Would this technology help the development of eco-friendly transport in Kyrgyzstan?

  • Should the authorities invest in such innovations?

The idea is genuinely interesting and quite feasible - and the future of such projects largely depends on people's interest and opinion.
