Finally! Electric cars are now even more affordable!

Kyrgyzstan has been allocated a quota of 15,000 electric vehicles in 2026:
excellent news for those who have long dreamed of switching to electric cars.

Today's morning began with truly inspiring news. The heads of government of the EAEU countries approved a preferential import quota for electric vehicles in Kyrgyzstan for 2026. Most importantly, our country received a quota for 15,000 electric cars that can be imported without paying customs duty.

As a woman interested in eco-friendly transport, I was genuinely happy: the transition to an electric car has now become much more accessible and closer.

What exactly was decided?

The Eurasian Economic Commission announced that next year, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Belarus will be able to import electric vehicles on preferential terms. For Kyrgyzstan, the quota was approved for:

  • Fully electric vehicles,

  • Series hybrids, where movement is powered by an electric motor, and the internal combustion engine (ICE) only acts as a generator.

The total volume is 15,000 units of transport. For Belarus, the quota was 20,000 "pure electric cars," but this is a very significant step for our country as well.

Why is this good news?

According to Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister of Trade, such preferences have already shown a positive effect in previous years. They help to:

  • Develop the electric vehicle market,

  • Stimulate the installation of charging stations,

  • Increase the share of eco-friendly transport in the region.

This means that Kyrgyzstan is gradually moving towards a more modern, economical, and ecological future.

And what about the conditions?

The preference is primarily intended for the residents of the country, so it only applies to citizens permanently residing in Kyrgyzstan.

There are also certain restrictions related to the transfer of these cars to citizens of other EAEU countries. They are needed to ensure that the benefit is used specifically by families and drivers within our country, and not by resellers or intermediaries.

Essentially, it is simply a neat mechanism that protects the market and makes the program more targeted.

What does this mean for us?

The main thing is the opportunity.

Electric vehicles are becoming closer, more accessible, and easier to understand. Now many families will be able to consider them not as a distant dream, but as a real option for purchase.

For me personally, this is an inspiring sign: Kyrgyzstan is taking a step forward, supporting an ecological lifestyle and modern technologies.

And who knows - perhaps as early as 2026, there will be many more quiet, eco-friendly, and economical "electric cars" on the streets of our cities. And we will be part of this renewal.
